Patient Positioning

Wrist in PA position on the image receptor.
Perform maximum ulnar deviation (towards the little finger).
Ensure the carpals are in direct contact with the IR.
Center the scaphoid to the middle of the IR.

Central Ray

15° Proximally

Angulation: 10° to 15° towards the elbow (proximally), centered at the scaphoid (anatomical snuffbox).

Clinical Indications

Snuffbox Pain

Focal pain on the lateral side of the wrist.

FOOSH Injury

Trauma from falling on an outstretched hand.

Delayed Assessment

Late post-traumatic evaluation.
